A Magical Time Day 5

Our second day on Arran was much more relaxed. All we HAD to do was catch the 6:30 ferry back to the mainland.  So we had breakfast at the Burlington, then walked back to the Bay Stores since it was after 10 am and we could purchase our Arran Gin.

After this, we wandered back to all the interesting little shops we passed on our search for dinner the night before.  This included a craft shop where I got to pay £1 and crochet a few rows for a charity that then donated these scarves to people who could benefit from then.

The Eco Savvy shop had very interesting pre -used items and it was a fun place to shop.   Whiting Bay is so much different from Brodick. It feels like a proper village, whereas Brodick is a proper tourist town.  I like them both but feel like the next time I stay, it will be back to Whiting Bay.

Janie's

Next stop was the little shopping area that hosts Janie's Tea Shop, where we got delicious lunch and returned later for cake!

So many decisions to be made at Arran Aromatics
Arran Aromatics and Arran Cheese. These are also required stops when visiting Arran, but they are second choice to me, after the Standing Stones.  Glad that time permitted us to be able to stop here too.

Arran Cheese is wonderful and they have recently won an award for the best Scottish Blue Cheese in the world. After visiting them twice in two weeks, I must admit I am more a fan of Blue Cheese than I used to be.  Prior to now, once or twice a year was enough for me. Now, I am thinking of Blue Cheese as first choice.  Such a quick change in tastes!

We also visited Arran Brewery and wandered up and down the main street of Brodick.

The only thing we had not accomplished was searching a cemetery to see if there were any family members to discover.

So we found one near Glen Rosa and successfully discovered 3 headstones with the correct last names!

Heading back to Brodick to catch the ferry back to the mainland, we had an hour to spare, so were able to sit out in the sun at The Douglas Hotel and enjoy our last gin and tonic, with the exception of Whitney, our driver, who had to settle for Irn Bru.  The driving and alcohol laws are just too strict here to risk having a drink!

What a fabulous and special time with such dear friends and family.
