End of Summer trip with our Grandson. Day 6 - the last day

Blair Atholl Train Station

We walked around Blair Atholl this morning, visited the working watermill and Corbyn attempted to grind some oats with a mortar and pestle. He couldn’t even break them up!

This looks more like the Cotswolds to me!

Gate to Blair Castle, as close as we got!
Taken by Corbyn!
We loved this area and I believe we will return, maybe staying at the River Tilt campsite next time.  When I took Kenzie on a walk early in the morning, we ended up at the River Tilt and it looked really nice.  I was met by the boys as I returned and Corbyn took some candid photos of me with my camera.  Here is one!

Isn’t it strange that all these miles we have covered and we have not seen any distilleries?  With the boom in Scottish Gin, I love to visit their distilleries and purchase some unique bottles.  But not one was seen.  We did pass by Tullibardine though. Never heard of it, but does that matter?  Just makes it more interesting.  I don’t normally drink Whisky, but I like having a good bottle at the ready for any guests who do enjoy a dram!  This one sounded perfect and I will actually try it some day.  (with Scottish drive and drinking laws, even a taste is not legal so I don’t do it if Alan can’t!

So many to choose from, especially when you don't know much about the product

Look at the price of this bottle!

All of us really just wanted to go home at this point, but we did a small detour to Bannockburn.  I had visited this a few years ago with my niece, Morgan. We had the best day at Stirling and the Battle of Bannockburn had just re-opened and sounded amazing.  It lived up to its reputation and I really thought ending this trip with a visit to a famous Scottish battle would be the perfect end for a trip with a 9 year old boy.   Yes, he loved it.  However, the tour and battle experience had just started and we couldn't wait another hour for the next one.  Either way, another very positive experience thanks to being members of the National Trust.  Anyone can go, but as a member, we don't have to pay admission fees so we never have to consider whether it is worth trying!

Once home, I took all the food not eaten and we had a veritable feast of leftovers and food purchased in error.  It was a fun way to start normal life!  This trip was fun, especially not knowing where we would go and what we would experience.  And that it worked with the added pressure of travelling with a little boy.....  We are all planning what adventures we can some up with for our trip next summer!
